Fun house mirror

I'm not really sure which I find harder to deal with, or hear. Someone telling me I'm fat, or someone telling me I'm skinny. I'm not really sure what my aversion is to hearing someone say I'm skinny. I guess it's because I don't see it. I look in the mirror, and I don't see a skinny, white guy. I mean I'm not staring at the reflection of a huge, mass of a man either. I know I'm not really big anymore, but that doesn't stop me from seeing myself through fat man eyes. When I hear someone say I'm fat, first thing that pops into my head is, "Yeah, no kidding. Tell me something I can't tell from looking down." When the reverse happens, I hear in my head. "Wow, you need some glasses, I'm definitely NOT skinny."

I guess it's all a matter of perspective, but I really don't know which is worse to me. It's funny, because I hear other people relish the moments when someone gives them a compliment. Maybe I just don't know how to take one? I guess maybe it just feels fake. Like someone is just trying to make me feel better about myself, without actually meaning it. Am I the only one who thinks this way?

Definitely not the only one here..

I feel the same way. I *know* I am fat, so I don't care when someone says so. But when people comment about me losing weight, I feel much more self conscious. I don't know why. But I hate it. I wonder how long it will take for me to accept it, after I've lost the weight.

Its weird for you, too.. cause, you haven't been really heavy in a long time. You'd think it'd have sunk in by now :-)

I know we both need to boost our own self esteem a lot, before we can ever accept compliments from someone else. I don't know how to do that, though :-/

Yeah, it's probably because I don't see myself that way, so it's hard to accept that other people might. I think the worst is when someone says "you're getting TOO skinny." If that was the case, why does my good friend Wii Fit say I'm still over weight? ;) lol Wii says ohhh when you step on. That's a polite translation of OUCH!

Haha I think it's saying "OoOh! I can see up your skirt!" Haha

Yah, I do hate when people say that to anyone (you're getting TOO skinny) unless that person is seriously anorexic! I think it's just as rude as telling someone they are getting too fat. Even though, in their head, its some weird compliment.

Anyway, I'll probably punch you in the face if you get down to 185, and aren't happy about it! haha

Hey - the Wii Fit says "Oh" sometimes and "Great" others. Its a TIMING thing, I have figured it out. Trust me on this. It's all about how and in how many microseconds after they say step on you get your ass up there.
