So true

At the concert I went to last night (it was amazing, of course!) I noticed that I was SURROUNDED by very obese girls. 2 to my right, 4 in front of me, 5 in front of them.
I then remembered something I read recently.

73% of American's will be overweight by the end of 2008.

That is one LARGE percentage.

I sat down next to a girl, who was probably about 60lbs larger than me. She was nice, but visibly annoyed to have to squeeze in these TINY theater style seats. She then said "They really should start widening seats in America"

Or maybe, we really need to lose weight.

I'm always very torn between fat acceptance, and change.
Being heavy my whole life, of course I've had ridicule, and cruel words. I've always thought - why can't they accept me for who I am? But at the same time, all I'd ever wished was to be skinny.

I have NEVER met an overweight person who didn't wish to lose the weight. Even the ones that preach size acceptance, and being comfortable with their body. I think it's more of giving up, than actual acceptance.

Ok, rant aside... it all basically just made me so glad that I've made the decision to truly change. next time I see Alanis... I'll be comfortable in my seat. I will dance freely and not worry about being in everyone's way.

The Toadies show was like that too. It's a rather alarming statistic, but you also have to take into consideration that five pounds over your "ideal" weight on the chart is taken as over weight.

Yeah, but thank god there weren't SEATS at Toadies! This was quiiiiite a tight squeeze.

Definitely makes me determined to slim down before Vegas, last time I flew, the seats were as tiny as the Orpheum. Man, that's uncomfortable!

I completely understand that. My feeling is, acceptance for all. Make chairs bigger, even at optimal weight some folks are just bigger than others, and above all change our eating habits.
And until I can get where I want to be, a little acceptance of my size would be nice too.
Great post!
