The importance of food, and oh-heck-yes I'm back in the game!

I'm back!

I had training last night, it felt so good! It's weird how I only jumped one session, but it felt like forever since I'd been.  I take that as a good thing, for sure!
The scale flashed 213-point-something this morning before I hopped off, so I am very hopeful that  my few days of rest didn't do any real damage. My knee is still bothering me but its nothing at all like it was just a couple days ago. I am going to stay away from running for at least another week (blah! :-( )
I don't want to do any (further) real damage.

I apologize that I haven't had any new delicious recipes or foods for you lately. I've been doing it KISS style (Keep It Simple, Stupid!)  and just eating very basic meals, like yogurt, fruit, veggies, chicken, eggs, oats.  I haven't really made any dishes for myself at all.  I just make a gigantic pan of enchiladas for Joel, and he's a happy camper all week... and it allows me to eat my clean and easy meals for dinner.

I enjoy cooking. And I truly enjoy creating new flavors and recipes... but I also really like the ease and nutrition of a quick, simple meal.  It's a totally different experience, I think. When I cook a big meal with side dishes and sauces and the works... I love to sit down and enjoy it. I feel accomplished in having created something like that, but it feels more like entertainment.  However, when I get home from the gym, and I grab a Chobani, add a scoop of chia seeds and a mango...it feels more like fuel. Now, I l-o-v-e the taste of Chobs, and fruit and whatnot. But it's just a different feeling. It's informal. It's peel-off foil and plastic spoons, but it feels like I simply giving my body the nutrients it needs to recover from that work out.  I really enjoy that feeling too.

For me, it's always going to be about finding balance. Learning not to put all my effort and love into FOOD.  Realizing that I can enjoy and appreciate the taste and richness of it, while not overindulging. But also not treating food as just a way to survive. Because, although the importance of eating for enjoyment (in my opinion) is far, far too high in our culture... it is that way for a reason, and that will never change.  I CAN enjoy it, while not making it my everything.

Uh, yeah, I HATE cooking. And I love to eat.

It's amazing I'm not heavier than I am. I really have no willpower.

I applaud yours! :)

And yay for getting back to training!

Sometimes it's great to get back to basics, and those basics can be pretty dang tasty!

I love that last statement!
